Holster pockets, also sometimes called nail or hanging pockets, are deep pockets that usually hang off the side of a garment. They allow the wearer to carry any necessary tools or equipment they need for their tasks in a convenient place whilst simultaneously freeing up their regular pockets and hands and allowing them to carry other items.

While trousers often allow more space for pockets on the garment, shorts by their very nature have less space for holding items while at work.
