What are Parka Jackets and Parka Coats?

Parka jackets are characterised by being long coats, slightly longer than ordinary winter jackets, to provide extra protection from the cold at the lower back and extra warmth on the top of the legs – this makes a significant difference, if it is really cold.

Many parka jackets are insulated with quilted lining, and several jackets have either removable padded lining or pile lining, so you can customise the jacket to the changing temperatures. Some have removable, lined hoods with adjustable elastic drawstrings, so that it fits closely to your head helping to retain heat and keep you warm in cold conditions. Others have a hood attached for extra protection from the cold and wind, when it is really cold.

Several of our parka coats are certified according to EN 342 and EN 343 for optimum protection against cold and rain. Many jackets are breathable, windproof and water-repellent. Some are completely waterproof.

A breathable parka jacket is important in a physically active job, allowing dispersal of excess heat and moisture and thereby keeping you warm and dry.

Many Parkas are treated with dirt-repellent and water-repellent materials, to provide durability and gives the Parka jacket a long service life.

Being visible is crucial to some professions such as construction, railway or aviation work – both in daylight and in the dark. Hi Vis parka jackets have fluorescent material and reflectors and often EN ISO 20471 certification.

Multi-protective or Multinorm Parka jackets are available for workers who face conditions that need protection that is anti-static, acid-resistant and flame-retardant, amongst other hazards.
